Trump Calls Families of Attacked Military Soldiers to White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The president stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump informed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Mourners came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist policing efforts in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that teachers desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her alma mater, informed the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Adjustments
Officials have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event led the government to suspend asylum applications and cease issuing visas to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general Bondi informed a news show that she also intended to meet with the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with honor, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
