Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Versus defending champion Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now hit 23 total October home runs, placing him third in history after Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person in the world that I'd choose in that situation except for George Springer with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work throughout the year.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he added.
Toronto's team claimed the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
