The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
