The beloved crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."

The last series concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.

However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."

He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."

"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.

The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
