British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up the current season and will keep her coach for 2026.
The British player reached the third round in three of the four major tournaments during the season.
Britain's Emma Raducanu has pulled out of her remaining competitions this season due to a health issue that has affected her over the past 10 days.
Raducanu, aged 22 was due to play in Tokyo and Hong Kong but chose to travel back to rest and recuperate before starting plans for the 2026 season.
Those preparations will involve her coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals have decided to continue collaborating in 2026.
The tennis professional had her blood pressure taken during her first-round match with Ann Li in Wuhan and retired when losing 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.
She again required a doctor's assessment at this week's Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to local wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.
Her movement was noticeably restricted in the third set against Zhu because of back discomfort that has been a concern at times this year.
Those results followed a positive campaign, in which the player advanced into the international top 30 after a long gap for the first time since 2022, ended with three successive defeats.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points then was defeated by Pegula in round three in the Beijing tournament last month.
She secured 28 victories during 2025 and reached the semi-finals in the Washington tournament, but her standout performance was at March's Miami Open.
As Britain's top player reached the quarter-finals of this WTA 1000 tournament, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route then falling in a three-set match to Pegula, ranked fourth.
She worked with Mark Petchey as coach from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in ahead of the US Open.
The original arrangement with the former trainer of Nadal was until the end of the season but the collaboration persists, with a training session scheduled in the coming months.
Raducanu told that the trial session alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "black ops mission" as the meeting was kept under wraps.
The player was close to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at their initial event as a team in August's Cincinnati tournament.
The coach also accompanied Raducanu in New York, where she made the third stage prior to losing to 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
